Biography

Jacques Dupont was a French set designer, painter and illustrator. He was born in Chatou, France, in 1909 and died in Paris in 1978.

Dupont studied at the Académie Ranson in Paris. He was already working as a stage painter for Ballets Russes at the age of 16 and also successfully established himself as an artist. At the same time, he wrote articles in the magazine “L’Amour de l’art”.

Shortly afterwards, he began his career as a professional stage and costume designer and worked with directors such as André Barsacq, Félicien Marceau and Raymond Gérome. His works of art were in great demand at the time.

Culture, music and art became the center of his life, also influenced by his long-standing relationship with the composer Henri Sauguet (1901-1989).

Jacques Dupont died in 1978 and is buried together with his partner Henri Sauget in the Montmartre cemetery in Paris.
