Biography

Markus Lüpertz is a German painter, graphic artist and sculptor. He is one of the most famous German artists of the present. His pictorial objects are characterized by suggestive power and archaic monumentality. Lüpertz insists on capturing the object of representation with an archetypal statement of its existence. Many of his works are attributed to neo-excessivism. From 1988 to 2009 Lüpertz was rector at the State Academy of Art in Düsseldorf. The press stylized him as a “moderner Malerfürsten”.
Lüpertz lives and works in Berlin, Karlsruhe Düsseldorf and Florence. He has his studio in Teltow.
He publishes the art and literary magazine “Frau und Hund,” which he founded and in which he also publishes his own poetry and prose texts. “Offbeat texts with abstruse private philosophies can be found, as well as original contributions not without grace and wit.
