Biography

Leon Löwentraut, 26 years old, is one of the most sought-after young contemporary artists. His works have already been shown in New York, London, Copenhagen, Singapore as well as in the Pushkin Museum in St. Petersburg, the Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence and the renowned Osthaus Museum in Hagen.

His style: colorful, abstract art – expressive force mixes with cool nonchalance. His exhibition openings are an event. His paintings are the heroes of his exhibitions. He spreads out the red carpet for them and his guests.

Löwentraut’s works are spontaneous and impulsive. Preferably, the artist paints with full body effort with loud music (rap, classical, soul) on the floor of his studio – at night.

Repetitive and dynamic ornamental structures, paired with abstract-expressive people, heads and silhouettes belong to the preferred image canon of the Düsseldorf artist. His formal pictorial language refers to a unifying representation of the Eurocentric cultural pictorial memory. Expressive, colorful and full of tension, Löwentraut’s works reveal their narrative qualities and provide insight into his view of the world.

His subjects are multifaceted, dealing with people and the interpersonal, oscillating between optimism and criticism, often also showing the isolated person behind the social facade. The topic of “sustainability” is also one of his favorite subjects. Famous is his campaign “#Art4Global Goals” as well as his art action “Global Gate” at the Frankfurt airport. Both art actions deal with the topic “sustainability”, interpret it artistically and carry it into the world. Further stops of the Global Gate will be Singapore, Dallas and Hong Kong.

Löwentraut’s works always exude an irrepressible joie de vivre and confidence. In this way, he strikes a chord with the times.
