Biography

Leon Löwentraut, born in 1998 in Kaiserslautern, lives and works mainly in southern Portugal and maintains a second studio in Mönchengladbach.

His works are conceived for an immediate visual impact and unfold through the direct relationship between image and viewer. They have been presented in museums and galleries in Germany and internationally.

Line, charcoal, and color structure the pictorial surface, forming figures that move between fragmentation and condensation. The works evolve from drawing and painting, with their process of creation deliberately left visible.

Alongside his paintings, Löwentraut produces charcoal drawings on handmade paper as well as sculptural works in bronze and stainless steel, in which he translates the line of his drawings into space.

His works have been exhibited in national and international museums and galleries, including the Bavarian National Museum, the Osthaus Museum Hagen, the Ernst Barlach Museum, the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, and the Palazzo Medici Riccardi. Further presentations have taken place at the Kunstforum Wien, the European Parliament in Brussels, and at the UNESCO Headquarters.

His work has also been featured at international art fairs such as Art Miami, Art Karlsruhe, Luxembourg Art Week, and Art Toronto.
