Solo Exhibition Beyond Narrative in the gallery

We are pleased to present a one-woman show with the remarkable artist Jacqueline de Jong in our gallery.

Jacqueline de Jong was born in the Dutch city of Hengelo in 1939 into a Jewish, cosmopolitan and art-loving family.

Because her mother had to flee Holland with her during the war, de Jong’s early life was marked by social upheaval. These experiences also influenced her artistic life. In a career spanning six decades, she has explored eroticism, humor, banality, and violence in human interaction.

She was a member of the Situationist International (SI) and maintained close contact with the artist group SPUR. She became known worldwide as an important representative of the European avant-garde of the 1960s. Painting is the basis of her work, which also includes drawing, sculpture, prints, jewelry and artists’ books. The artist’s pictorial oeuvre is multifaceted: she refuses to evolve linearly and is not afraid to try new materials and techniques.

Jacqueline de Jong’s artworks have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide. Her works are in private collections and in the public collections of international museums.
